As you stroll down St. Joseph's Ave. you'll discover a festive blend of art, music, holiday and sidewalk sales nestled in among the many specialty shops, galleries and restaurants. Just a couple of blocks from downtown you find the Marina. Nearly all of the beaches surrounding Suttons Bay are publicly owned.

LEELANAU WINE CELLARS, located in the quaint town of Omena, has been making Premium and Table Wines for nearly 30 years. In the fall of 2003, my wife, Leveda and I were married on the Tall Ship Manitou while sailing the West Bay. It should be no surprise, then, that our favorite is the Tall Ship Chardonnay. This flavorful and aromatic white wine offers a hint of oak flavor surrounded by a crisp buttery finish.
CICCONE VINEYARD & WINERY, established in the fall of 1995 by Silvio and Joan Clare Ciccone, is Italy right here in Leelanau County. Personally cultivated by the Ciccone family whose wines have been harvested and made by hand, you will discover a Dolcetto, typically grown in Northern Italy, or a Gewurztraminer, a white and fruit flavored wine. Since 1998 Ciccone Vineyards have won over 35 medals locally and internationally. Seventeen rolling acres, planted in European vinifera grapes surround the refurbished 1930's "Red Barn" which has hosted many weddings, corporate events and holiday parties. Tony and Joan, I love what you've done with the tasting room.
SHADY LANE CELLARS, located east of Suttons Bay on a historic 150 acre farm, credits its excellent quality wines to the ideal conditions found on the Leelanau Peninsula for growing the fruit harvested and utilized in their wines. Shady Lanes produces award winning method champenoise sparkling wines including Brut, Blanc de Blanc's and a Sparkling Riesling. Other wines include Rieslings, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Vignoles. This strikingly rugged stone covered tasting room welcomes their guests with open arms.
L. MAWBY first planted their vines in 1973 and has been producing Sparkling Wines since 1978. A small winegrower producing less than 4000 cases of wine, L Mawby specializing in Champagne Method Sparkling Wines under the L. Mawby label and Curve Close Method wines under the M. Lawrence label. The vineyard now includes the varieties Vignoles, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Seyval, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Regent. Striving to make wines that express the unique soil and climate of Leelanau County, personal attention is given to the vineyard and wine cellar. "Fine wine is made in the vineyard not the winery"

Old Mission Wineries: this glacially formed landscape is situated at the 45th parallel; an ideal climate for growing a variety of wine grapes. The deep water of both East and West Bays provide lingering warmth in the fall, while also staving off the early frost of the cold spring temperatures preventing the premature budding of the winter months. During the winter months the heavy lake effect snows keep the vines insulated and protected from the cold climates.
